New: Gaming News

Hi everybody (hi Dr. Nick). We’ve just added gaming news to Gamebase. News is tagged with the game it is about, and can be seen on the ‘news’ tab. The latest stories are fetched approximately every 12 hours, so it’s pretty fresh. And in the next week we’ll be adding a news box to each game profile so it’ll be easy to see the latest headlines about any specific game.

New: The Return of Facebook Profile Badges

Hello everybody. We’ve just re-enabled Gamebase Facebook profile badges. Currently, only one badge is available: “Games I Own.” Unsurprisingly, this badge shows off the games you’ve most recently marked as owning. Over the next few days, we’ll be adding in-depth badge configuration. When it’s complete, you’ll be able to pick from a variety of badges to show off the gaming profile you’ve been building with Gamebase.

Hope you like it.

Fixed: Wonky behavior when tab-browsing

Hey all, we just released another bugfix for Gamebase. If you ever opened multiple game profiles in browser tabs, and then attempted to comment/rate/etc any of these games, you may have noticed some rather wonky behavior. The problem causing this has been fixed, and you should be able to use browser tabs to your heart’s content. As always, let us know if you see anything acting strange.

Fixed: Blank game profiles

Several Gamebase users have been seeing a rather awful bug the past few days: the game profiles that make up the heart of Gamebase were showing up as blank. We discovered the bug thanks to an excellent post by a user on the Gamebase about page forums, and we’ve just deployed a fix.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and to make sure it doesn’t happen again, we’re ramping up our quality assurance testing on all future changes.

Thanks for understanding!

Improvement: Search

Search is now powered by Sphinx, a very powerful search engine. As a result, your searches for games will work much better and will contain less garbage. Try it out and let us know what you think.

New: Videos!

We’ve just added a video subsystem with incredibly high quality h264+aac encoded videos. The latest version of Flash 9 is required for playback, as is a decent internet connection and a reasonably powerful processor.

We’ve integrated the videos into Gamebase in several ways. Each user now has an indicator on their profile of total videos watched. Each game has a new section that lists videos related to the game. And finally, each video has viewing stats to peruse.

We’ll be adding videos on a fairly regular basis, so keep your eyes on that shiny new “Videos” tab for the latest content.

Improvement: Social game profiles

We’ve just added two new sections to game profiles. If you’re logged in when you’re viewing a game profile, you’ll see a list of your friends who own the game and a list of your friends who’ve completed the game.

Hopefully this makes spelunking through the game library a bit more exciting.

New: "I've completed it!"

Ever wanted to tell your friends which games you’ve completed? We’ve just added a new feature to Gamebase that lets you do exactly that. Stop by any game profile and look for the “I’ve completed it!” link underneath the game’s box art. There’s a corresponding list on your main Gamebase profile that lists the games you’ve completed—useful for showing off to your friends.

Hope you like it!

Improvement: Redesigned Gamebase Profiles!

Hey all! We just completely revamped Gamebase profiles.

All the old information from before is still there, and it now shows your Facebook profile picture and friends of yours who are using the app. You can view any of your friends’ Gamebase profiles to see what they’ve been doing on Gamebase, and you can now browse all of your ratings and see your entire collection.

Let us know what you think on the about page!

New: Facebook Profile Boxes

We’ve just added support for Gamebase profile boxes on your main Facebook profile. Currently they show the latest five games you’ve added to your collection. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding customization abilities and new data to the profile boxes. We hope you like what you see!
